“ it is all about light and shadow ”
“fotographz” is the name I created to define my visual moment(s) in shadow and light. This is my identity.
Being at see level is about showing you the visual moments not seen by others.
I photograph without hesitation because you should never see a image AND not photograph it to later wish you had…
...being at see level is also about “doing” not thinking about doing.
I don’t have a favorite subject because what fuels my passion visually is the power that “light” can give any subject.
There is nothing wrong with your eyes…just open them.
At see level is not a place as much as a collection of individual visual moments...that can work singularly or together...but it is always about the light....and some shadow.
Balance.
The power of photography is how it makes you feel, my eyes show me what my heart feels.
I don’t have a favorite subject because what fuels my passion visually is the life that “light” can give any subject be it a person, place, or thing. They are all equal in "the light".
Coffee Cups
In 1989 I reconnected to my humanity by photographing the left behind coffee cups at coffee cafes around Los Angeles and later the world. Winter 2001 at a koffie haus in Delft, Netherlands this cup I was sipping out of seemed to whisper, “Take me with you.” Without hesitation, the cup, saucer, and spoon went into my pocket. This cup, which I now think of as the "cup" now travels with me everyday, wherever I am in the world. I may not photograph it everyday but it is always close by. Photography of coffee cups is always as they are found with the available light that is there while “the cup” is all about position, lighting and my micro managed mood.
This on-going project photographing coffee cups and “the cup” made me aware of the constant seeking of personal and artistic equilibrium (...ego or balance maybe?).
I am the most open minded person I know yet at the same time I can be the most narrow minded person I know.
Photographing these cups actually allows me to sometimes find that balance between
holding “on” or and simply letting go.
